I am a woman who “has it all”. And I know the feeling of giving more of yourself – your love, talents, time, sleep, energy – than you have. When we don’t prioritize ourselves, we sacrifice our health and well-being. Giving of ourselves without replenishing our energy and grounding our minds is not sustainable. And things can spiral out of control quickly.

I want you to be your best self – full of vitality and purpose and simply glittering from within. To accomplish that, you have to move yourself to the top of the list. Health looks good on you, girl! And you deserve it.

What is Self Care?

Self-care is simply an action that one takes to preserve and encourage one’s health and well-being.

You see, self-care is not a passive endeavor. We must actively tend to ourselves and our health. No one will do it for us.

Your self is made up of many different dimensions, and each dimension requires special attention and care. Here’s what that looks like:Self Care Guide

Physical Self Care: Nourish your temple, inside and out. Move your body in a way that feels good. Eat foods that make you glow. Don’t neglect your sexual self. Prioritize medical and dental care. You are worth it.

Emotional Self Care: Recognize and acknowledge the emotions you feel. Only when we name our emotions can we begin to cope with them in healthy, productive ways. Your emotions are valid and deserve your attention.

Intellectual Self Care: Feed your curiosity. Create. Engage in activities that serve your higher beliefs. Spend time with people who challenge your worldview. Find fulfillment in your work. Share your ideas. There is only one you.

Spiritual Self Care: Take time to connect with your Higher Power or energy source. Be mindful. Engage with and respect nature. Seek out your purpose. Soak up beauty.

Social Self Care: Seek out the people who make you belly-laugh. Reconnect in meaningful ways. Apologize. Walk away if you have to. Command the respect and love you deserve.

Why is Self Care Important?

Because you are important. Invaluably so. And don’t you forget it.

How to Get Started

Self Care GuideSelf-care is a deliberate, daily exercise. Like any other healthy habit, a self-care routine takes time to build. Start slow to create a sustainable routine throughout the day.

Plan: pick one new self-care activity at a time. Get my list of self-care activities here. Write it down. Set some goals if it is a larger endeavor. Establish a good habit before adding another activity to your routine.

Schedule: Remember that your self-care belongs at the top of your list. It’s not an “if I get to it” kind of task. Set a reminder. Jot it down in your planner. Tell your partner, kids, boss, etc. that your time is occupied. Your well-being is just as important as that of all the people you care for. Protect it.

Prioritize: Actively loving and caring for yourself doesn’t mean you love your family less. Self-care is essential to loving others well. So treat yourself kindly. Remember that self-care isn’t selfish. It’s necessary.

Last Thing You Need to Know about Self Care

You are worthy of your best life. You deserve to feel energized and inspired and loved. Your time, health, well-being, and love are valuable beyond measure.

Treat yourself accordingly, beautiful.
