32 Powerful Affirmations for Self Love

You know the old adage “Sticks and stone may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”

How old were you when you realized that was a BIG FAT LIE?

Words are powerful. They absolutely have the power to hurt you, and they probably have in the past. Where did those words come from? Were they from strangers? People you love?  Yourself?

We can be pretty terrible to ourselves. Negative self-talk can manifest fear, anxiety, and anger in our lives.

But by replacing negative self-talk with powerful positive affirmations, you can see a real change in your attitude, outlook, and actions!

What Are Affirmations?

Affirmations are a tool used to create a positive mindset. By repeating positive phrases to yourself daily you can conjure up confidence and self-esteem…because words are powerful.

I first tried positive affirmations several years ago when I noticed that my self-talk was becoming increasingly toxic. Every time I looked in the mirror, I started listing off all of the things that were “wrong” with my body.  I was teaching empowerment to young girls at the time and decided to practice what I was preaching. Let me tell you, it was incredible!

Every morning I chose to replace my negative talk with positive affirmations. Instead of “my arms are so flabby”, I said “these arms are strong and I use them to create beautiful things”. It was so simple! The negative talk didn’t stop over night, but with consistency I saw a real change in myself and my relationship with my body. I felt that my affirmations were a powerful tool. When negative thoughts crept back in, I knocked ‘em out!

Affirmations let us control our internal narrative. So let’s make it beautiful and powerful!

I later used positive affirmations during my pregnancy and the birth of my daughter. Parenthood is daunting so practicing affirmations helped to quiet my fears (Will my baby be healthy? Can I be a good mother to her?).  I noticed a real sense peace during and after the birth. Since then, I have worked positive affirmations into my daily self care routine. I write them in my journal and repeat them throughout the day when I need a dose of positivity.

How To Use Affirmations

Incorporating an affirmation practice into your daily wellness routine can have a huge impact with very little effort. You can repeat affirmations out loud or quietly as part of a meditation practice. You can write them down in your journal and read them over and over. Post them on your mirror, in the fridge, on sticky notes at work, or anywhere you will see them repeatedly throughout the day.
